Narrowly missed out on Premier Tour Summer Cup

At the end of June, PostFinance Helix took part in the qualifier for the Premier Tour Summer Cup, narrowly missing out on qualification.

The Premier Tour Summer Cup, the ticket to qualification for the European Masters in the autumn, is just around the corner. As Switzerland’s most professional team, we naturally want to pit ourselves against the big European teams. So we decided to take part in the open qualifier at the end of June. To provide us with support – and to get another expert view on our performance – we flew in Utama from Norway. He brought fresh impetus to the training facility, provided input and helped PostFinance Helix get into good shape for the qualifier.

The format of the qualifier had to be limited due to technical issues with Riot. Instead of a closed qualifier, there was a single elimination bracket in the best-of-one format on the Sunday. We took on strong teams like ‘Arsis Esports’ and ‘X-Factor’ to reach the quarter-finals where we were eventually beaten by ‘07 Gera Esports’.

But it didn’t end there: all teams that reached the quarter-finals had the chance to compete for a place in the group stage of the Premier Tour Summer Cup. Our opponents were ‘Panthers Gaming’, ‘Flayin Esports’ and ‘Team Gamerlegion’. Unfortunately, we were defeated in the first match against the strong ‘Panthers Gaming’ team which went on to qualify for the Premier Tour Summer Cup.

After licking our wounds in the aftermath of the international competition, we have learned from the experience and are looking forward to the next challenge. We are very confident that we will succeed in international competitions in future through intensive training and effective preparation.
